Meet the Team

Katie Alsip

Katie Alsip has a hand in all things design and has been spearheading the marketing movement since her first days at Rhinegeist.

What do you do at Rhinegeist?

I’m a marketing manager which covers a lot of ground these days, most notably overseeing a lot of the design process...which is kinda everything that has our brand on it. I also work on internal events and get to plan some of the cool brewery and tap room parties. Super stoked for Hopgeist, our Double IPA Festival coming up October 31st!

Nickname:

Trashboat Larry…(she starts laughing) the story is that during our brewery retreat at the Red River Gorge, it was fairly late at night and a new Katie had recently joined the team so we were discussing the frustrations of sharing a name in the work place. We were riffing on nicknames to avoid this problem going forward and then the name Larry came to me, so I volunteered to be Larry. The Trashboat part? Story for another time.

What did you have for breakfast?

So I recently picked up this brand of Dannon yogurt called Oikos. They just changed their packaging to a black container and sponsored the NFL. It’s clearly meant for a dude, a bro-gurt you could even say, but it’s called “Total Zero” so I had one of those. I think the flavor was mixed berry, what does that say about me?

What do you look forward to doing most every day?

There are a lot of things I love about my job, but one of the biggest things, and I think pretty much everyone feels this way, is that I get to come here everyday. The high fives you get throughout the day, the people you work with that you get to call friends, it’s all pretty special. When you’re climbing the stairs and can start to hear the music the brewers are blaring, everything from metal to Frank Sinatra, that’s what it’s all about.

Famous Look Alike:

I don’t think I do…although this one time in Boston a taxi driver was convinced I was Lindsay Lohan — he truly wouldn’t believe me that I wasn’t Lindsay Lohan.

Who is your favorite person on the team?

I have to pick a favorite person? Oh man, I don’t know…Ryan Osner (Warehouse and Events team).  He’s just absolutely hilarious, and is constantly making me lol. Both his positive energy and his laughter are extremely contagious and create good vibes wherever he goes. Oh, and he gives the best hugs! Simply put, you can't have a bad day around that guy. Disclaimer: Katie HATED answering that question.

Is there a piece of apparel you wear the most?

The black hoodie, I really like wearing black.

Spirit animal?

A Squirrel for sure! I’m a borderline official collector of squirrel things. It’s because I have this connection with them. I have five squirrel related things in my house and had to cap it at that (hence the borderline above). I also squeal when I see them! They’re mischievous, cheerful and happy just bopping around all the time — love 'em.

What’s your favorite Rhinegeist beer?

It’s a close call between Fiction and Pure Fury and I feel like a lot of people internally would say that. Pure Fury for me has a great balance of hops and malts. It’s also got a badass energy and story behind it with the colors and we all love Luke. Yet as of late I’ve been BIG on that Dry Hop Cidergeist train (as she takes a sip of it).

Perfect date?

I’m a big planner so oddly enough it’d be having someone else do all the planning or zero planning, and just going with the flow of things. I love bopping around to different bars, splash of live music and letting it be organic. Not too keen on the over-planned kind of stuff, spontaneity, ya know?

What’s something about you most people don’t know?

Oh, I’m terrified and really disgusted by articles of clothing where they shouldn’t be. Like, if there’s a sock on the sidewalk laying by itself I almost vomit and have to run away. I have no idea what it comes from. I’ll have friends that will send me pictures of little kids shoes on a ledge just to freak me out. I’m even feeling squeamish as we speak.

Favorite Sandwich?

Egg sandwich. Gotta have that runny yoke, cheese on an English muffin and avocado if you’re feeling fancy. Also any sandwich that someone else makes you is a great one.

What do you do when you're not 'Geisting?

I take a fitness boxing class and a couple other ‘Geisters have joined me, so once or twice a week we’ll do some ground and pound. I love going to see live music — any live music is good to me. I’m also a huge sports fan, sports, sports, sports, so Sunday’s are a big day for me (she mentioned fandom for teams that can’t be published here).

Where does the beauty of the brewery lie for you?

From a physical standpoint it's the building and the history behind it, the bones. In every other way it’s the people that breathe the life into it. Not just our team but the people the that come here and frequent it. I remember before I started working here that there’s a vibe you can feel, something communal about the space and you feel like it’s your own. The spirit people give the brewery is what it’s all about.
