The Hop Box is a mixed pack that allows us to showcase all the different, interesting ways hops can be used in modern brewing. The beers in this pack utilize a combination of new hop varietals, novel brewing techniques, and exciting innovations in yeast. Beverly Pils is a West Coast Pilsner, which means it’s dry-hopped with American hops grown in the PNW, and also uses some of the exciting new hop products developed over the past decade.
While the majority of people would associate hops with ales, hoppy lagers have existed for centuries. Pilsner, be it German or Czech, is the most well known, and is beloved for its ability to deliver delicious hop-derived flavors in a light, crisp beer. Our experiments with hops aren’t limited to ales either, with Beverly Pils being the most recent result. Bright, citrusy hops with a light, crispy lager base? That’s what I want to drink!
Italian Pilsner is a popular style right now, characterized by a light lager base that’s dry-hopped, usually with European varietals. Beverly Pils is an American take on this style, utilizing West Coast hops like Citra and Cascade, to name a few.
Along with some heavy-hitting West Coast varietals, there’s also a blend of both Cryo and Lupomax– products which contain a higher ratio of hop oil to vegetal material than usual. This leads to a beer with more hop flavor and less unpleasant, astringent plant matter.
There’s still plenty of summer left, and pilsners are the quintessential warm weather beer. Beverly Pils has more than enough flavor to keep you coming back for more without overwhelming you with sweetness or bitterness.
Appearance: Light straw with slight haze and fluffy white foam.
Aroma: Hop derived notes of bright, fresh citrus, with hints of crackery malt.
Taste: Mild bitterness and just a touch of balancing malt sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Crisp and effervescent.
Overall: Light straw color with dense white foam, this mildly bitter, light bodied pilsner features notes of citrusy hops and crackery malt.
What foods would pair well with Beverly Pils? Beverly Pils would go great with a fresh summer salad.
