Slangria (Fruited Ale) Review

Slangria is our latest Fruited Ale. What does this beer bring to the table, and how does it complement other fruit-forward offerings like Wowie, Bubbles, and Little Bubs?

Pomegranates are delicious, but also have a very unique flavor. Slangria is flavorful and complex, showcasing the deep, rich characteristics of pomegranate. Blueberry complements this complexity well, and the addition of lime adds a bit of citric acid, brightening up the brew and accenting the fruit. Malt is subdued but present, and the interplay between bready grain and sweet, fresh fruit tricks the mind into tasting things that aren’t in the recipe.

Where did the idea for a pomegranate-driven beer come from?

Pomegranate has been extremely popular in other countries for centuries. Only recently has it gained traction in the US, transitioning from an exotic curiosity to common ingredient and flavor. With colder weather approaching, we wanted something deep and complex that would still be refreshing and approachable. We experimented with just about every fruit you can imagine, and we found that pomegranate has all those characteristics we were searching for.

What makes you want to drink this beer?

Slangria is the perfect example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. There are no added spices to this beer, but the combination of pomegranate and blueberry gives the impression of blueberry pie crust. This beer is going to pair perfectly with hearty winter foods; I already plan to drink this with Thanksgiving dinner. It’s also going to be perfect around a fall bonfire.
