Truth Bomb (Imperial IPA)

The Hop Hero we deserve…

Unapologetically bold, fearlessly hopped, incredibly honest. This Imperial IPA emerges from the shadows to bring righteous flavor back to the streets. A super group of hops join forces for a profile bounding with stone fruit, pine and ripe melon. Have no fear, Truth Bomb is here to save the day. HOP-POW!

Give us Truth Bomb’s origin story!

Our research and development department had been experimenting with hoppy recipes for years, attempting to achieve the impossible: an Imperial IPA that’s both loaded with hops, and high in drinkability. Early in 2024, we came across Alora hops, which, to quote Hopsteiner, “contains over 50% of unidentified total oil uncommon in hop chemistry.” We tossed this unique varietal into the kettle along with the rest of the ingredients for an Imperial IPA, cranking the dials for ABV and hop intensity to their max, and watched in awe as Truth Bomb emerged from the fermenter and exploded into cans and kegs.

How does Truth Bomb fit into the Truth family (Truth, Juicy Truth)?

With Truth and Juicy Truth both being hopped-up single strength IPAs, Truth Bomb joins the lineup as the elevated alcohol offering, while still delivering intense hop aroma and flavor. Balancing all the extreme elements required to construct a brew like Truth Bomb is a difficult task, but it’s a challenge we were happy to accept.

Truth Bomb is an Imperial IPA—what makes Truth Bomb stand out?

The term “Imperial” denotes that a brew has an elevated alcohol by volume (abv) than what is typical of the style, born from English brewers in the 18th century who created high ABV beers meant to survive being shipped to the Russian Imperial Court without spoiling. A massive malt bill is necessary to provide enough sugar for the yeast to feast and create all that alcohol. This massive malt backbone means that a heavy-handed hop addition is required to balance that bready sweetness, as well as provide all the delicious aromas and flavors we expect from an Imperial IPA. Adding the wrong amount of any of these ingredients has a drastic effect on drinkability, resulting in a beer that’s astringently bitter or cloyingly sweet.

Does Truth Bomb have an arch nemesis?

For centuries, clarity was the sign of a well-brewed beer. Then, about a decade ago, hoppy beer started showing up that wasn’t clear at all. In fact, it was hazy, and loaded with fruity-hop flavor, breaking all the traditions of what brewers knew an IPA to be. And while these murky, juicy brews seem to pose no harm- we’ve even recruited one to our own team- Truth Bomb is a purist, and isn’t sure what to make of these juicy, murky hop monsters.

Appearance: Clear, light straw colored with fluffy white foam

Aroma: Hop-derived notes of fresh apricot, resinous pine, and ripe melon

Taste: Mild bitterness perfectly balances hints of crackery-malt sweetness, allowing intense hop flavor to dominate

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied with medium-high carbonation

Overall: Truth Bomb is an extremely well balanced and drinkable Imperial IPA, featuring intense hop-derived notes of fresh apricot and pine, with hints of malt and alcohol sweetness. The body is light and refreshing, with medium high carb.
