Wowie (5%) is an Ale with Pineapple and Passionfruit. How was that specific flavor combination conceived and how was it produced in this beer?
The beer was originally conceived as a tropical partner for Bubbles, but a debate quickly started as to what fruits should be used. Pineapple was almost a necessity, but it can be a bit boring. We whipped up some test batches, and quickly found that we love the lively tartness and bright flavor from passionfruit. From there, it was just a matter of tweaking the levels to find the perfect balance of juices.
Wowie rounds out our seasonal Fruited Ale lineup. How does this brew complement Zango and Slangria?
We develop each recipe with a specific season in mind. Slangria pairs well with colder fall/winter nights and heartier food, while Zango gives that citrusy first taste of spring. With pineapple and passionfruit, Wowie screams summertime. It pairs perfectly with poolside lounging, hanging out on the beach, or just relaxing in your backyard.
What are the notable characteristics of this beer?
Bright, fresh, and tropical fruit aromas jump from the glass. The flavor is well balanced, with sweet pineapple and tart passionfruit dominating.
What makes this beer unique?
Wowie is packed with fruit flavor without being thick, heavy or syrupy. The light body and clean finish make this the perfect brew for a hot day, while the bright tropical fruit notes will satisfy even the slowest sipper.
