Meet the Team

Dana Harrison

What's your job at Rhinegeist?

I’d like to think that I’m a Sales Wizard—the kind of wizard that slings beer all over the city, no mouth is left dry.

Where does the beauty of the brewery lie for you?

Probably within its team—I’ve been with Rhinegeist since basically the beginning, when there were 7 employees and it was an old dingy dusty building. It was just a bunch of dudes and one chick and as Rhinegeist has grown it has evolved into something magical. All the people that Bob and Bryant have selected, it’s within the team for sure.

What was your first day like at Rhinegeist?

I got paired up with Jim Matt, our head brewer, and was the first non-brewer to brew a batch of Rhinegeist. I brewed panther our robust Porter, and it was actually the first ever batch of Panther, too! Also during my first week, I had just bought a stick shift without knowing how to drive it and Bryant’s car (VP of Sales and Marketing) was in the shop so we had to drive mine that week. I was just sitting their with my brand new boss who was also the co-founder of the brewery stalling all over the city.

What's something about you most people don’t know?

I have mad skills with a butterfly knife.

Woh, because?

I learned from my best friend's brother, who wasn’t a cat. This is when I had real friends. I would practice so long that my hand would be covered in bruises.

Do you have a best dish in the kitchen?

I really like Mexican food so I make a mean Southwest salad, and then I go all lunch lady on it and make tacos the next day with the leftovers, quesadillas the day after and round it out with nachos on the third day—delicious.

Any favorite hairstyle?

Oh yeah. I like to mix my hair up often but right now it’s a short bleached blonde pixie cut. I do it so that no one can miss me in a crowd. I’m 5’1” so I’ve gotta do what I can. It’s like a neon bike jacket on my head (as she flashes a big smile).

Do you have a famous look alike?

It totally depends on my hairstyle. When it’s blonde and longer, Reese Witherspoon, if I’m brown, Zooey Deschanel, and lately, as its been bleached I get Miley a lot—Miley is probably my least favorite.

Perfect date?

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios.

Keep going...

First we go to Honeydukes and get tons of candy. After we stop by the Quidditch shop to try out brooms, then head to a magical place called Hogwarts. At Hogwarts I cry myself to sleep with tears of happiness.

Do you have a catch phrase?

Well I like to greet people with ‘Whattup, player?!’

Who is your favorite person on the team?

There’s a three-way tie! It’s between Jim Matt, Ox Oxman and Luke Cole and here is why: Jim protected me from a physical altercation on our first New Years party at Rhinegeist, Ox because he’s never said no to me and promised he never will, and Luke because he’s always down for a nice little Friday.

Spirit animal?

Most certainly a cat. I have a strong passion for cats. I grew up in the country so we’d have a minimum of 10 cats at a time.

Did you say 10?

Yeah, and because we lived in the country there weren’t a lot of friends or houses to walk to so my sister and I had cats as our friends. We’d put them in Barbie clothes, and when they grew it would be baby clothes. Our cats were pushed in barbie vans, strollers and we’d make beds for them to sleep in. We really loved cats.

What did you have for breakfast?

Sour cream and cheddar ruffles.

Do you have a go-to sandwich?

An Italian sub! Cold cut Italian sub is delectable. I honestly love all the flavors and spicy fixings, along with mayo, onions and tomatoes. It just has a bunch of stuff on it that I love.

What’s your favorite Rhinegeist beer?

Probably Zen, it’s the one I drink most often, but, when Fiction is around I’m a sucker for it, it’s so unique with its New Zealand hops and lots of fruit character. Fiction is a total crowd pleaser because its approachable for those who don’t care for hops, but the hopheads also have a huge appreciation for the beer.

If you were a Rhinegeist beer what would you be?

I hope I’m not a Cougar, yet, so I’m going with Zen. Because I love yoga and it’s my go-to beer.

What do you do when you’re not 'Geisting?

Usually a lot of Harry Potter stuff. I do a rotation of Harry Potter trivia, audio books, movies and wearing my Harry Potter bathrobe around my house.

You have a Harry Potter bathrobe?!

Oh yeah! For Christmas I got a bunch of good stuff, the Hogwarts bathrobe, the Elder Wand, Harry Potter trivial pursuit and an iPod with ALL of the audiobooks!
