B Side (IPA)
Reviews are done by Jim Matt, our Head Brewer, who is also a veteran FoBAB judge, GABF judge, and BJCP Master judge.
Last year we teamed up with Shake It Records to collaborate on a Record Store Day IPA and dubbed it A Side. We had so much fun brewing and grooving and pouring beers in Northside that we figured we’d make it a tradition! Flip it to the B Side IPA (6.8%, 65 IBU), pop the cap, set the spin, and beatbox your grin to these fair dinkum beats of the banana benders.
Malts: 2-row, wheat and Carared
Hops: Vic Secret, Idaho 7 and Ella
Why are you excited about B Side?
We are following up on the success of A Side IPA with a totally different incarnation and keeping the tradition alive!
What are the notable characteristics of this beer?
Fruity, piney, resiny, light bodied and dry.
How does B Side relate to other IPAs?
We've procured some Southern Hemisphere hops, and used two of them in this beer, Ella and Vic Secret, to offer a different spectrum of fruit flavors than your typical American “C” hops.
Appearance: Medium yellow color, slightly hazy with a moderate, persistent white head.
Smell: Fruity, with hints of peach, guava, melon along with complimentary star anise spice notes. In addition there is a resiny and piney undertone.
Taste: Medium fruity notes from hops—peach, melon, tangelo, slight grapefruit, finishes slightly piney and “dank.” Very dry, very little malt flavor and slightly grainy.
Mouthfeel: Light body, slightly creamy and little alcohol warmth.
What foods would pair well with B Side?
Pad Thai noodles or falafel.
Ideal glassware for B Side?
Go for an Imperial pint glass just to get those extra few ounces to enjoy!
