We've Got Our Homebrew Competition Winner: Newsletter 2/1/2017
Big time congrats to Michael Roller (pictured above), our 3rd Annual Homie Homebrew Competition winner, who teamed up with our Chief Science Officer, Jim Matt, to brew his winning recipe.
Every year, we sound the horn giving local homebrewers around Cincinnati the chance to take their recipes from the kitchen to our brew house. The winner of the competition gets to not only brew their beer at the brewery, but also have it bottled in 22 oz. bombers and kegged to be sold wherever Rhinegeist is available.
This year's Homie (7.2% | 24 IBU) has a monastic bent. A Belgian Style Dubbel Ale that walks the path with hints of raisin, plum, bubblegum, light spice and caramelized candy sugar — a complex and spiritual flavor journey.
Malts: Pilsner, Munich Dark, Aromatic, CaraMunich, Special B, Candi Sugar
Hops: Styrian Goldings
Homie comes out on draft and 22 oz. bombers starting Monday, February 6th.
To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Cincinnati Winter Beerfest, we collaborated with Cincy Beer Festivals and brewed Rood (5.5% | 45 IBU), a Red Belgian Style Wheat ale. Rood has a notable hop presence from Hallertauer Blanc that offers lime zest, floral and spicy notes.
This year's Cincinnati Winter Beerfest is on February 17th and 18th at the Duke Energy Convention Center. If you're looking to try Rood, it will be available at the Beerfest's 10th Anniversary Booth. The slew of suds we'll be pouring from the van are:
- Truth (IPA)
- Bubbles (Rosé Cider)
- Bertha (Milk Stout)
- Mosaic (Pale Ale)
- Juicy Truth (citrus fruit infused IPA)
